There is nothing here of what made John Mellencamp to superstardom in the 80s. No Lisa Germano on violin. No Kenny Aronoff on drums. No grand, rustic heartland rock about Pink Houses where a black man with a black cat has an interstate running through his front yard. No loud protest song like "Rain On The Scarecrow" where Mellencamp stood with his feet wide apart between Woody Guthrie and The Rolling Stones.

On their third album, Canadian Arcade Fire tries to portray the middle-class suburbs. And like so many others, they see no paradise with carefree children running through sprinklers. They see a sterile end of the line where the adults leave their childhood behind and prepare to die.

Soul has always remained under the surface of Sheryl Crow's music and now, on her seventh album, she takes the plunge and pays tribute the soul she grew up with back home in Kennett, Missouri. The soul that was born in Memphis, less than 50 miles away. The soul that Otis Redding immortalized on Stax in the 60's and was developed by Al Green on the 70's recordings for Hi Records.

In the video for new single "All The Lovers" Kylie Minogue is at the top of a growing pile of naked people. The symbolism can not be missed. The white horse who gallops by and the flapping pigeon at the end is not there by chance. Both animals are typical attributes of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, which gave name to Kylie's eleventh album.
